#4 Texas Opens Season with Statement Win over Colorado State

The fourth-ranked Texas Longhorns opened their 2024 campaign against the Colorado State Rams at DKR Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. The Longhorns, who are one of the two new members of the SEC, along with their rival Oklahoma, came into this game with their sights set on another CFP appearance and showed why with a 52-0 victory over Colorado State.

The ‘Horns put up 355 yards of total offense, with 190 yards coming through the running game. QB Quinn Ewers completed 20 of 27 pass attempts for 260 yards and three touchdowns. Texas’ new receiving core featured four players with at least 50 receiving yards. Back up QB Arch Manning got in on the action in the second half completing five of six pass attempts for 95 yards and a touchdown to go along with a rushing touchdown.

Colorado State struggled to get anything going offensively against the Longhorns’ potent defense, as QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi completed 10 of his 18 pass attempts for a lowly 59 yards. The only bright spot on offense for the Rams was running back Justin Marshall, who ran for 106 yards on 25 carries.

Texas’ defense has not missed a beat since last season, with two interceptions and only 11 first-downs allowed. The Longhorns held the Rams to 3.7 yards per rush, as well as 3.1 yards per pass attempt.

Colorado State will look to get back on track next week as they host Northern Colorado in their home opener. Texas will head to Ann Arbor next week to take on defending National Champion Michigan Wolverines in what is sure to be a good one.
