Alabama to Name Football Field After Nick Saban

Alabama’s board of trustees voted Friday to name the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium for Nick Saban, the legendary coach who retired in January. The field will officially be called "Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium," honoring Saban's immense contributions to the program. Saban, who has been replaced by Kalen DeBoer, called the field naming "pretty special" during the board's Zoom call.

Saban will be honored ahead of Alabama's Week 2 home game against South Florida on September 7. The ceremony will recognize his remarkable career, which includes a 292-71-1 record across four head coaching positions and a record seven national championships.

Saban has seamlessly transitioned to a new role as an analyst for the SEC Network, participating in SEC Media Days this past week. It was his first time attending the event in a non-coaching capacity since 2006, and he showcased his natural talent for television, providing insightful analysis of college football. During the media days, Saban predicted that Georgia and Texas would play for the SEC title later this year.

Saban's last Alabama team won the SEC title and secured a spot in the College Football Playoff by upsetting Georgia in December. The Crimson Tide then faced Michigan in the Rose Bowl, where they were defeated by the eventual national champions.

Throughout his tenure, Saban led Alabama to six national championships, including three BCS titles from 2009 to 2012 and three College Football Playoff titles. Under his leadership, Alabama appeared in a record six CFP national title games and made the four-team playoff in eight of its ten seasons, solidifying his legacy as one of college football's greatest coaches.
