Dallas Stars Ink Alexander Petrovic to Two-Year, Two-Way Deal

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Stars have bolstered their defensive lineup with the signing of defenseman Alexander Petrovic to a new two-year, two-way contract, General Manager Jim Nill announced today. The deal is set to commence with the 2024-25 NHL season.

Petrovic, a seasoned 32-year-old defenseman hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, made his mark in Dallas during the 2023-24 season, featuring in one regular-season game and firing off two shots on goal. He further showcased his capabilities in the playoffs, tallying four shots on goal across seven games during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Most of Petrovic’s season was spent with the Texas Stars, the Dallas Stars’ affiliate team in the American Hockey League (AHL). There, he proved instrumental with 22 points (5 goals, 17 assists) over 70 regular-season matchups. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, Petrovic contributed one goal in seven appearances, highlighting his consistent performance on the ice.

Standing tall at 6-foot-5 and weighing 208 pounds, Petrovic brings both size and skill to the Stars’ defensive corps. Originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round (36th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Petrovic joined the Dallas organization as a free agent on July 28, 2021.

With this signing, the Dallas Stars aim to strengthen their defensive depth heading into the upcoming season, banking on Petrovic’s experience and contributions both in the AHL and NHL playoffs.
