Matthew McConaughey Addresses Texas Fans After Field Incident During Georgia Game

Texas Longhorn fans found themselves in the spotlight for the wrong reasons during Saturday’s loss to Georgia. After controversial calls on the field, debris began to be thrown from the stands at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, leading to disciplinary action. The SEC has since fined the University of Texas and threatened to revoke alcohol sales at future home games if such behavior continues.

Both Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and Georgia’s Kirby Smart condemned the actions, but now another prominent voice has weighed in — actor and UT alumnus Matthew McConaughey. In a statement released Monday, McConaughey addressed the student section directly, calling the incident “not cool” and urging fans to clean up their behavior before the next game.

“Longhorn nation and specifically our DKR student section, M.O.C. McConaughey coming at you here,” he began. “First off, you were electric Saturday night when we hosted Georgia. Bravo. Even though our Horns didn’t get the W, you created a measurable home field advantage.”

However, McConaughey didn’t shy away from criticizing the fans who hurled objects onto the field, saying, “But let’s get real about the bottle bombing the field glitch we had. Not cool. Bogey move. Yeah, that call was BS, but we’re better than that.”

He closed his message with a call to action for the Nov. 9 matchup against Florida, emphasizing the importance of fan intensity — without the unsportsmanlike conduct. “Let’s make sure [the Gators] feel the heat, can’t hear the play calls, and burn their timeouts — but remember, nothing hits OUR field except that Texas fight.”

With the SEC watching closely, McConaughey’s plea comes at a crucial time, as the Longhorns look to rebound both on the field and in the stands.
