Texas State Crushes UTSA 49-10 in I-35 Rivalry

SAN MARCOS, TX — Texas State rolled to a decisive 49-10 victory over UTSA on Saturday, claiming their first win in the I-35 Rivalry.

UTSA’s defense provided an early spark by intercepting Bobcats quarterback Jordan McCloud on the third play of the game. However, the Roadrunners failed to capitalize. On a critical 4th-and-3 from the Texas State 33-yard line, quarterback Owen McCown’s pass to Devin McCuin came up short of the first down marker.

Texas State quickly turned the momentum. Midway through the first quarter, McCloud bounced back, finding the end zone on a 17-yard run, giving the Bobcats a 7-0 lead. UTSA managed a field goal to cut the deficit to 7-3, but that was the closest they would get.

The Bobcats responded with another score, as McCloud capped off a drive with a 2-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 14-3. From there, Texas State took full control. UTSA's offense struggled, punting on four consecutive possessions as the Bobcats extended their lead to 35-3 by halftime.

Deion Hankins pushed the lead to 28-3 with a touchdown following a five-play, 60-yard drive. Moments later, Lincoln Pare dashed through the Roadrunners' defense for a 45-yard touchdown, giving Texas State a commanding 35-3 advantage heading into the break.

UTSA's offense remained stagnant in the second half, unable to mount a comeback, while Texas State continued to dominate on both sides of the ball, securing the win in the rivalry game.
